AMPS needed to run a house

Understand electrical rating

Section 210.20(A) of the NEC indicates that a circuit breaker for a branch circuit must be rated so that it can handle the non-continuous load plus 125% of the continuous load.

A branch panel has a higher amp rating compared to individual circuits because it is designed to distribute power to multiple circuits simultaneously,

Most panels you can add more branch breakers that can add up to more than the main breaker, as long as you don’t have full load on all the breakers at the same time

“x2”:
This indicates that there are two separate hot wires within the panel, allowing for a combined potential of 250 amps (125 amps per wire).
